Foreword:
This comment is a revised version of the comment I left on the original version of the level.
For context, the original version of this level had illegal characters in its name, it would not load unless manually downloaded. I would like to express immense gratitude to the creator for actually reading through my comment and getting things fixed up. Beyond the loading fix, they actually fixed a setup that would instakill the player if they didn't hold right going out of a certain door. Not only does it make me feel warm and fuzzy inside, but it also shows that they really care about their levels.
Comment:
Irrespective of the context of this comment, this level's pretty great. The "How to pronounce Bass????" joke has always been funny to me, and it's actually representative of the level's contents, which made me chuckle.
Difficulty-wise, I initially guessed that this level would probably lie within Mega Man Maker's "Hard" classification, probably between 60 and 70% (though we'll see about that now that the level's up and running.) While I managed to clear the level with only one (meaningful; check the foreword for more info) death on my first playthrough, it wasn't trivial.
The level's core gimmicks are Big Fish (There's the joke!), Frisk Cannons, Floating Spikes, Concrete Lifts, and Breakable Blocks. They all blend together quite nicely, and are used to create setups where the player must mind their movements and use Bass's dash and double jump to their fullest.
Restricting the player to Slash Claw was a really smart choice; it enables the player to deal damage at a super fast rate, but because of how limited its range is, Bass doesn't suddenly become able to destroy every setup in the level.
Using it to absolutely SHRED Suzak & Fenix feels especially good. The first fight with them is relatively trivial, but it shows you that Slash Claw deals TONS of damage to regular enemies and minibosses alike. Then, in the next two fights, you actually have to give it your all and position yourself correctly. Tearing them to pieces with good movement not only rewards good command of Bass's moveset, but also inherently feels amazing.
Aesthetically, the level is very nice to look at. Mega Man Maker's grass decorations are really pretty, and this level uses them to full effect. The transition to being able to see the sky in the second half is also really nice, and helps emphasize the player's progress.
My only complaint is that there's a certain section where, upon entering a new screen, the player's obscured by their HP bar. Still, that's just nitpicking; you're in no danger, so it's not like it even matters much.
Overall, this level's an amazing showcase of what you can do with Bass in Mega Man Maker. Because the level was handmade for Bass specifically, the setups feel highly unique, and are sure to leave Bass fans and people who enjoy tricky courses thoroughly satisfied.
