The year is 21XX. Dr. Thomas Light and Dr. Albert W. Wily, the two greatest scientists in the world, have passed away of old age. Their projects seemed to be doomed with being unfinished.

However, not everything is lost.

Dr. Alexandra Volt, an alumnus from the Mechacchusets Institute of Robotics, takes Light's place, studying the conception of Robot Masters, humanoid robots with independent and human thought. Her colleague, Georgia Ohm, succeeds Wily, studying the risks and potential of the Double Gear System.

Volt has managed to finish DVN-Alpha Roll, a housekeeping robot and the first Robot Master Dr. Light had intented to complete. In order to assess Roll's mobility in case she needed to fight, Volt puts her through a short movement simulation to record her mobility data.
